WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE GOAL
Dear Mr. Robinson,
Sir I have been a fan of yours for many years. I have just read your resent interview with Iron Man magazine. I am probably another of the many people who will say that you're very inspirational. I felt your story was very interesting. It was a surprise to find out the many trials you went through to be the person you are. I remember when I first saw you was in the Pumping Iron movie, and the many articles on you along with your win at the Masters Olympia. I was shocked to find how the people behind that movie and the Weider company treated you the way they did. But I wanted to ask your opinion about the black champions they did pick. Do you think they were picked because they sold out? (I'm not being rude I want your honest opinion) But my main reason for writing you was when you mentioned in the interview about being yourself in bodybuilding. From this even though I'm 34 realize how important that is. For many years I ran with the fear of being wrong. But when you are after an idea you have set in your heart that is sometimes apart of the process of being right later. I just really needed to read that. I know that was simple. But seeing how being yourself worked for you, I should follow suite, but on my on terms. Keep doing what you do sir. You're doing a great job.
Hi Robby,
I'm 61 years old. I have been bodybuilding and involved in physical fitness most of my adult life. As a young man, you were one of the reasons I began to getting int o shape and training. I looked at you and wanted my body to resemble yours. As i continued to follow your career. I was also impressed by your dedication and your honesty and the way you carried yoursef. A true honest man and bodybuilder. You were overlooked by the select people in charge of bodybuilding competitions and magazines. The true athlete's we were not fooled. you were one of the best if not the best!without all the big mouthed hype that other bodybuilders of your golden era displayed. Anyway.. at my age of 61 I still train 3-5 days per weak... I train with my son.... what a blessing. I am beginning to feel my age somewhat.... I wonder if I need to cut down my volume ... I do notice I do require more recovery time between training sessions. I still do enjoy training as much as ever.... my results are stagnated over the past several months. Well anyway I'm glad i found you web-site. The article on you in Iron man was very well done, I was able to learn some more about you. You came across as forthright and sincere, as I expected. Robby in the article you recommended some 7 foundation supplements? are there here on your site? what is your take on the amount of protein our bodies, at our age requires? Is "built on dvd? is it a training DVD showing you training?I may want to purchase that. That story about you telling that 13 year old kid ,about the Weider products.... was a testament to your honesty. I also agree that the bodybuilders of today are NOT what we want to look like. Your body, Frank Zane , Lee Labrada, were so aesthetically beautiful!. the guys today are too freaky. So in conclusion, although I'm an older athlete I still have that desire to be the best I can... I was thinking at first to perhaps have a phone consultation with you....... and learn from you, and then I can also pass it on to my son. I wish I lived closer. I live in South Florida. I would love to train with you in the Masters class. Hope I did not ramble on and on. Robby thanks for the memories and motivation. I wish a merry Christmas and blessed New year to you and your family. Tony CamineroJohn,
DearRobby
I have been a long time reader of Iron Man. And, while I don't go back quite that far, I have every issue of Iron Man going back to 1945. You can see by that I have a great deal of interest in the history of the iron game. Therefore I am glad to see you are keeping it alive through the pages of Iron Man magazine, e.g., your recent interview with Robbie Robinson. Relative newcomers to the sport can benefit from knowing a little of what came before them. Those of us who have been around a while, I'm sure, appreciate being brought up to date with what is happening to the stars we used to read about on a regular basis. Please continue with these articles.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Robert
Robby,
I was in chapters when I saw a familiar face on Iron Man's magazine cover. I bought it right away first time for that magazine, I was glad to see that you were doing well. In the seventies I was a great fan of yours. cheers

Hi, Robby:
You were right, I did enjoy the depth of meaning in your interview in Iron Man. Thank you for your open expression. I have a question about one small part of a photo of you in the mag: I'm always looking for full-finger gloves for my workouts, and I sometimes buy football gloves or batting gloves or Mechanix brand. I notice you're wearing gloves labeled "Firm Grip" in the photo. I found them at Home Depot. Since they're not expensive, I think they may be perfect for me. Question: Were you compensated for showing that brand of gloves in the photo, or was the magazine paid for the product placement? I'm 50 years old, and about the oldest guy at my gym. So, I especially like reading about the guys who keep on lifting for the long haul! Thanks again. Walt
Robby,
Just read your article in Ironman, I'm totally mesmerized! Found your website, guess who's getting both videos for Christmas! Keep doing what you do, I've been a fan since the 70's! God bless, Joel
