ONE FOR THE AGES - ARTICLE IN 'TIMES'

THIS ARTICLE IN THE NEW YORK TIMES, WRITTEN BACK IN OCT OF 2006, HAS BEEN A FAVORITE OF MINE, SINCE I THINK IT IS BECAUSE IT SHOWS IN THESE PRIMATES WHAT'S HARD TO SEE AND ACCEPT IN US.

Robby,
Calorie restriction works, as does progressive resistance training. Calorie restriction prolonging life has been known for quite some time, yet we have done little in making this information known. We eat way too much, as well as primarily junk. That is why you should make some attempt at reaching your audience and making them aware of your diet. People are so tired of hearing the mantra that they should 3 sets of 6, 3 sets of 8 etc. Everyone knows you have to work out hard to achieve greater musculature, but diet has received little acclaim.

One of the reasons I wrote my book "I Ate It, Now What" is the fact that few people know how our Digestive system operates, and that eating large meals is disadvantageous. Eating many small meals 5-8 makes the assimilative process work much better. Obesity is epidemic, as is diabetes. We consume way too much Protein and saturated fat. This area is something you ought to consider, and maybe design a seminar around this subject. I know it has been a passion of mine, but I found that few BB's would listen. Maybe your audience would!!

Calorie - " restriction " ( ..I would use the term " moderation " ...) works...

What are the proofs..?

All age 90+ persons have 1 common characteristic ...

Nobody was obese in his life...

On the contrary they were all slim,slender & " ate to live " ,not..." lived to eat "...

So,they followed subconsciously a " calorie -restriction diet"...

True for all the places with high % of very old people...

Okinawa ( Japan ) ,Sardinia
( Italy),Ikaria ( Greece)...
Isolated areas,full of 90+ & centanarians...

All of them slim,slender,eating fish,vegetables ,fruits,all in small portions...

Natural exercise
( farming,gardening,swimming ),no anxiety &...plenty of sex,even up to age 100...

Harrysmatical you are well versed on the subject. You are entirely correct. People in this country eat entirely too much, as well as having protein consumption off the chart. I think that childhood obesity is running about 30%, incredible. What is your background?

Well,I am just a...financial consultant,but I read a few books & I read about fitness,health,aging & the relevant..
After the shock with the stomach benign tumor,I am even more passionate about health ...

Our bodies are like cars...
Bad fuel & low or no maintainance may not show up till...50K miles,but afterwards...the problems begin & accumulate...

Even fat people are "healthy "
till their 40s...

And then...the decadence begins...

In their 70s they are finished...

Harrysmatical, more people need to know that our body is just like the engine in a car. We are an internal combustion engine. Our fuel is the food we eat, and our feces is our exhaust. I am glad that you take health with passion.

People should be aware of their health. Unfortunately fraud is rampant in the health field and the only way to combat this is to be educated.

I will probably make my books "I ate it, Now what" and "Quick and Easy Physical Fitness" as free Kindle downloads as soon as my wif has time. I am a complete computer Bozo. This shoul address some of the problems with longevity, obesity, and Diabetes.

Many of us...oldtimers are not pc wizards,but we know the fundamentals...

You are most likely correct. Even though I was at the top of the AAU in its prime, and was VP of the WPF, I have diminished after my battle with the Weiders. Therefore, my name has sunk to the nether world. I will not stoop to fraudulent manuevering to make a name which has been done in the past, so I am just trying to impart my years of knowledge as a Biochemist, Physiologist and a member of the BB fraternity to the public.

Those of you interested in longevity should investigate the research don on Telomeres. They seem to control how many times a cell can divide.
