ONE OF THE SECRETS OF BUILDING MUSCLE IS THE AMOUNT OF CIRCULATING TESTOSTERONE WE HAVE IN OUR BLOOD. 

BOTH MEN AND WOMEN HAVE LEVELS OF TESTOSTERONE. SINCE IT IS THE MALE HORMONE, IT IS ONLY NATURAL THAT MEN HAVE MORE OF THIS SUBSTANCE THAN WOMEN. THIS GIVES THEM ADVANTAGE WHEN IT COMES TO BUILDING MUSCLE MASS.

Exercise and activity will increase Testosterone levels. My book "Steroids" describes what these hormones are, and how they work. Most people think only about Testosterone, but ther are actually approximately 11 androgenic-anabolic hormones that are produced by tissues other than Testes. I just recently had my labs and my Testosterone level was only 64. Below 340 is considered low. I was taking Testosterone by prescription but stpped because of Prostate problems. The low number indicates my system had shut down production. I can tell the difference in muscle tone and energy. The safest thing to do is exercise and maintain a good diet. It is a good idea to see what your Testosterone level is normally.

The levels of Free Testosterone in the blood is 348-1197. This is a wide range indeed. I have been fortunate to do labs on many world class athletes, and all are in the 800-1200 range. Of course, most of these enhance theirs by using prescribed steroids. Most normal individuals are in the 400-500 range. It would be nice to have the blood levels of Testosterone for mmany of our world class Bodybuilders like Robby, it would be quite interesting.

As a...common man who seeks health & longevity, first & foremost,I think that it is better not to ..." play " with hormones while we are young...

After age 50 or so,we may consider a mild ,light " hormone replacement " treatment,but only to bring our hormonal levels back to those we had at age 50,not at age...20...
A body at age 55,60,65 etc should not have artificially the hormonal levels of a...20yr old young gun...

Let us always remember,hormones are very powerful...They can add 5kg to a 115 kg BB.
5kg is the difference between...
1st & ...10th place in a competition.

I hope that Sly Stallone who is a regular user of growth hormone, honors this with his suggestions & knowledge from experience.

There is a wide range indeed. Another thing to note si that like grade inflation the scale has been pushed down to represent the current averages. So 350 now is normal but not too long ago that would have been hypogonadal.

As above your value at 50 may not be ideal so using that as a reference is a bad idea in my opinion. Being in the top 2/3 of the range is generally safe. HRT can also help not hurt many other disease risks.

Stan your testosterone is so low. I know your situation is not straight forward however. I am sure that you have done your research on TRT and prostate but there are those that don't align with that school of thought.

In my book I discuss this issue in great detail. When you take PEDS your system shuts off, therefore when you stop it takes awhile for your system to start producing hormone. I have just recently had another blood test performed at the Cancer Center and my level of T has risen to 308. I can tell the differnce in my levels of Hematocrit and Hemoglobin, as well as how I feel. It is amazing how much hormones can affect our lives.Dr. Stan

It is during the period that the bodies hormone producing systems are shut off that many bodybuilders experience depression, suicidal thoughts, low vigor that problems of emotions arise. This period is called "Metabolic Overshoot", and can be prevented by helping your system re-start.

Thanks Stan. I understand. Glad to hear that yours is coming back up. Yes, I think I have said, while I am not on HRT I do think it is in my future.

Keeping levels at a physiological seems to be beneficial with relative low risk for many people. As you know that has to be qualified.

HRT if done by a qualified physician is very safe. I would monitor Kidney and Liver functions, even though with intravenous use Liver function is not very much changed. By the time you are 50 your hormone levels have dropped to about 40-50% of what you had at 20. When you get my age (70) it is very low. One noticeable change is skin texture and energy levels.

I am not saying HRT is the way to go, however if you look at a list of the top 100 medications, OTC drugs, and vitamins that cause deaths, Peds are not on that list. Vitamin C, and Aspirin are on that list. However, I suggest that you become educated about PEDS, I always say "Education Beats Condemnation"

But seriously,what way do u think is the most natural in elevating my own hormones or replacing them through supplements ..?

IMO,a man at age 100 should...run at 80% of his peak hormonal capacity...
Not at..100% but certainly not at...20%...

5120When I visited Robby two years ago I weighed 229, and had a bodyfat of 20.7 done by hydrostatic weighing. I just had this done Jan/13 and my bodyweight was 189, but my Bodyfat went down to 11.7.
My Testosterone has gone from 64 to 514. Amazing how losing bodyfat has helped.

The 64 reading was expected. I had been taking Testosterone Depot for over a year (100mg/cc) every 2 weeks. This shut off my bodies production of Testosterone. I am now at about 500 which is my normal level at my age. When I was in my 20-30 year range with enhancement I went as high as 800-900. However, I have seen some people with T levels over 1200.

Multiple Myeloma has no cure, but I am in remission going on 7 years after my stem cell implant. I was given 4-6 mos to live befor the implant.

Thank you Robby for the post and Dr. Stan for sharing your knowledge and experiences. During my last physical, the doctor detected a low testosterone level (about 100 below my age average). I then realized that that I was practically doing everything it takes to have a low testosterone: not physical activity and a very poor diet. The doctor recommended me to use a testosterone prescription (can't remember the name, but it is a cream that you use under your arms like a deodorant). I decided to try to get my testosterone back to normal the natural way. I started a program of weight lifting, diet and natural supplementation to lower my body fat and increase testosterone. I am having my next physical at the end of the summer. I will keep you posted and will share the results and experiences.

The way that most BB follow...
Low intensity aerobics for up to 1h in the morning,with empty stomach & up to 1 hour before slep,at least 3h after the last meal..
For a total of up to 2h/day...

Thus,u burn the fat...

Hi Robby. Do you think a body fat of 27% is too bad to expect the t levels anything beyond 200? I read somewhere that testosterone is produced from fats. This is confusing to me
