NICKELS AND DIMES - CONTEST PRIZE MONEY AT THE CLASSIC and BIG-O

WHEN I WON THE FIRST NIGHT OF THE CHAMPIONS IN N.Y. THE PAY CHECK WAS $7,500. THIS WAS AFTER WALKING ALL OVER N.Y FOR 1 WEEK VISITING GYMS TO HELP PROMOTE THE EVENT. I WANTED TO DO A GREAT JOB FOR MYSELF AND THE MANY FANS THAT SUPPORTED THE BLACK PRINCE AND BODYBUILDING BACK THEN. AT THE TIME I WAS BEGINNING TO SPEAK OUT TOWARDS THE EXPLOITATION WE HAD TO ENDURE AS IFBB COMPETITORS. WE PAINED DEEPLY. THERE WAS A SELECTED CLIQUE THAT WERE WELL TAKEN CARE OF. I WAS NOT ONE OF THEM IN IT. BUT I HAVE ALWAYS SEEN PROBLEMS AS OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH, SO I CHALLENGED MYSELF INSTEAD OF UNFORTUNATELY FALLING APART AS MANY DID.
THE LAST TIME I ATTENDED THE IFBB MR. OLYMPIA 1 ST. PLACE WAS $125,000. DON’T FORGET THE WEIDERS SOLD THEIR PUBLICATION EMPIRE FOR $ 350-MILLION. THE ARNOLD CLASSIC, NOW BEING CALLED JUST THE CLASSIC (HUH?WONDER WHY), 1st. PLACE IS $150,000. THAT’S CHUMP CHANGE FOR BODYBUILDING'S 2 RICHEST PROMOTERS, AND THEY STILL WON’T GREASE THE PRIZE MONEY? YOU STILL HEAR THE SAME COMPLAINTS FROM THE COMPETITORS. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH MONEY FOR THE COMPETITORS TO MAKE THEM FEEL GOOD ABOUT THEMSELVES. IT’S SHAMEFUL. THE BODYBUILDERS IN THE IFBB PRO DIVISION SEEM TO STILL BE COMING OUT ON THE LOSING END AND EVERY GOLFER GETS A PAYCHECK RIGHT DOWN TO THE LAST PLACE COMPETITOR. SOMETHING IN THAT MILK AIN’T CLEAN.
PEACE, ROBBY

Thanks again, Robby. This time for something much more important. Thanks for enduring some of the most challenging years for a bodybuilder. Not only were you a phenomenal athlete not widely recognized by the public, but barely recognized by the big dogs in charge. It's a shame. I hope you know that although, today's guys aren't taken care of as well as they should be, that guys like you are ENTIRELY responsible for the success of bodybuilding and the improved benefits for athletes. So, again, Thanks Robby!!
